That’s why our team at Toyota of Orlando is busting some of the top car maintenance myths. That way, you don’t make mistakes that cost you money and could actually damage your car!
Don’t follow these car maintenance myths
These are just a few of the untrue car maintenance myths that you have probably read or heard.
Myth #1: You need to replace your oil every 3,000 miles
Sometimes, you’ll find quick-lube shops schedule your next oil change for after you add 3,000 miles. However, that could just be wasting product you’ve already paid for! If you aren’t sure when you should get your oil change depending on the oil type, be sure to check your car’s manual. Our Orlando service team recommends getting it changed every 5,000 miles if you are using conventional oil.
Myth #2: Inflate tires to the pressure shown on the tire’s sidewall
The number on the side of your Orlando car’s tire isn’t the automaker’s recommended pressure. It’s actually the maximum pressure that your car tires can safely hold! The recommended air pressure can usually be found on a doorjamb sticker, inside of glove box, or on the fuel-filter door. Be sure to keep your tires inflated since a drop in just 10 psi can make a 1 mpg difference in your fuel economy.
Myth #3: To keep a warranty valid, car maintenance must be done at the dealership where you purchased the car
To keep your warranty valid, it actually doesn’t matter where you get your car maintenance done. You can even do it yourself! Just be sure to keep any records and receipts that apply in case there are any questions over a warranty claim.
Myth #4: A battery will recharge after a jump start in only a few minutes of driving
This is a very dangerous myth to follow! It can actually take hours of driving to fully charge a battery. If you’re having battery issues, make sure to get it checked out at an Orlando auto service center. They’ll be able to let you know if it’s time for a replacement.
Myth #5: Wash your car with dishwashing or laundry detergent
