Summer is quickly drawing to a close – summer vacation, that is. Temps are still well into the 90’s here in Central Florida and we don’t think we’ll be getting any respite anytime soon (sorry). However, is your car ready to make the transition from the lazy days of summer to the busy school semester? We’ve got auto service tips from our Toyota of Orlando techs to help you prep your car for returning to the real world.
1) Clean things up. Is your car still full of sand from beach days? Still toting around trash because of that road trip you took? Get it cleaned out – you can either schedule Orlando car detailing or do it yourself at home. Either way, no one wants to start off a new school year in a dirty ride. Vacuum, wipe, shampoo, and dust until the interior is looking like-new again. And don’t forget to wash and wax the exterior so you can turn heads in the drop-off line! Plus, cleaning your car will make it a lot easier to organize it.
2) Check your oil. Summer heat takes a toll on your car – specifically, under the hood. Your vehicle has to work a lot harder when it’s hot out, especially if you’ve been doing highway driving over long distances or at high speeds. Do a double take when it comes to your oil. If you’re due for an oil change, schedule one at Toyota of Orlando. If you’re not sure if you’re due (or even if you’ve got a few weeks still) check your oil anyway. When you pull the dipstick out, it should be a caramel or tan hue and the level should fall in between the two tic marks. If it’s dark in color or below the bottom tic mark, the heat did a number on it and it’s time to schedule auto service.
3) Tackle those tires. If you took a road trip this summer or even spent a lot of time going back and forth to the beach, it’s worth checking your car tires before you start the back to school shuffle. You’ll want to examine the tread to ensure it’s deep enough, as well as check the inflation level to make sure they’re inflated enough. An overall condition check is a good idea too; if you see any places where there’s damage or blistering, you’re more likely to get a blowout. Bring your car into our Orlando auto service center to have our techs take a closer look and see what the solution is.
4) Get organized. The best way to tackle a hectic schedule is to be organized ahead of time. Make sure your car is stocked with back to school necessities (thinks snacks, wipes, and extra supplies) and use cargo totes, nets, or organizers to ensure your cargo area stays clean and nothing gets lost. You’ll thank us when it’s time to drop off and you’re trying to find backpacks!
