Are you thinking about packing up your tent and hitting the road this summer? If so, a little preparation before you head out can save you a lot of time and money. Toyota of Orlando is sharing camping tips so whether you brave the summer or wait until fall to pitch your tent, your trip is easy breezy and super efficient. Let’s get started – these camping tips will come in handy when it’s time to get off the pavement.
Use these camping tips to save time and money when you pitch your tent
Tip #1: Prep your car. We know, we know – we say it all the time. But routine auto maintenance will ensure you don’t get stuck with a flat or a broken down vehicle on the way to your camping destination. Schedule regular oil changes, tire rotations, and take advantage of the multi-point inspections we offer on the house here at our Orlando Toyota service center.
Tip #2: Doing a little glamping? If you’re going to be towing anything behind your ride, make sure it’s ready for the job. Have our Orlando auto service techs check it out for you to ensure you’ve got the right type of motor oil and coolant, that your tires are in good shape, and that your tow hitch is properly hooked up.
Tip #3: Here’s an important camping tip – pick your site carefully! If you want quiet, try to avoid camping right next to another group. Also, try to pick a spot that has HEALTHY tree cover for shade. If the tree has lots of dead branches, don’t set up shop underneath – a branch could break and fall on your tent. Also, try to find a spot that’s relatively close to a water source, as well as one that’s going to be upwind if you’re near other campers who may light a fire at night.
Tip #4: Stay cool. Florida summers can be brutal, so remember to take along battery-powered fans, plenty of ice (if you’re not hiking in), and water bottles. Sticking a cold water bottle in the bottom of your sleeping bag or near your feet can help bring down temps inside the tent. Remember to stay hydrated and wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing to help cool down. And don’t forget, Florida waters are renowned for gators, so if you’re going to swim, know your waterhole.
Toyota of Orlando can help you prep your car for a camping trip
- A tarp (to cover your tent in the rain and act as flooring to keep moisture out)
- A Bluetooth speaker for tunes
- Board games for the kids
- A headlamp for hands-free lighting
- A length of rope to use as a drying line for wet clothes and towels
- Firestarters to take the frustration out of s’mores
- Toilet paper (obviously)
- A small hammock to get off the ground when it’s down time
Tip #6: Don’t rely on your car battery. Some people like to leave the battery running in order to listen to music or provide light, but that’s an easy way to end up with a dead battery in the morning. Bring your own sources of entertainment, climate control, and light!
