Toyota of Orlando shares tips on how to protect your car and your belongings
Car theft happens, unfortunately, which is why it’s important to take preemptive steps to prevent it. After all, nothing ruins a day at the theme parks like finding your window smashed and your valuables (or even your car!) gone. Check out these Orlando Toyota tips!
Remove valuables from your car and put everything else out of sight. This may seem obvious, but thieves are more likely to break into your car if they see something of value sitting out in arm’s reach! Put cameras, phones, MP3 players, etc. out of sight – preferably in a locked trunk. Also, remember to put “evidence” of your valuables away! If you have a cell phone mount, charger, or any other accessories that go alongside your valuable, put those out of sight to prevent car theft, too.
Park in well-lit areas if parking after sunset, and if possible look for lots with lots of people coming and going or lot attendants. Thieves are less likely to break into cars that are in well-lit areas or areas that have a lot of foot traffic, because it’s more likely that they’ll get caught. Parking lot attendants are also big car theft deterrents. Avoid parking in alleys, side streets, and dark lots if you can help it, especially if you aren’t familiar with the area.
Stop car theft in its tracks this summer
Make it hard for thieves. This seems obvious, but remember to lock up your Orlando Toyota, close all the windows, and ensure the sunroof is closed as well. Also, make sure your trunk or rear hatch are also closed properly before you walk away!
Never leave a spare key on your vehicle. It can be handy if you find yourself locked out of your car, but it’s unwise to leave a spare key on or near your car as thieves can find it and make off with your entire vehicle rather than just smashing the windows and grabbing what they can find. Keep the spare in your pocket or purse instead!
Invest in some anti-theft measures. Tint helps make it harder to see inside your car, and you can also invest in accessories like a steering wheel lock that’s visible to possible thieves to deter them. And don’t forget about an anti-theft system – our Toyota of Orlando parts store can help you find one for your ride!
