Planning to hit the highway and get out of town for Memorial Day Weekend? Before you head out on a road trip, you should definitely prep your ride and yourself so you can make the most of your time and keep things easy breezy. Luckily for you, Toyota of Orlando has tips to ensure you kick off summer right. Take a closer look!
Keep your road trip easy breezy with our tips
Tip #1: Before you drive on the highway, you need to make sure your car has the tools to handle long distances and high speeds with ease. Our Orlando auto service center can help! Our techs will conduct a multi-point inspection for you to head off any problems, as well as give you important pre-road trip service like an oil change, tire rotation and balance, fluids check, and battery check.
Tip #2: Plan ahead. This means plotting your route (including an alternate because you never know when bad traffic or nasty weather will crop up), planning stops along the way to stretch your legs and fill up, and booking hotels ahead of time if you plan on stopping overnight.
Tip #3: Pack carefully. First, you’ll want to pack two separate bags if you’re stopping overnight anywhere on your way. Use one to pack essentials like a few toiletries, a change of clothes, and medicine – this will be the bag you take into the hotel with you. Pack all of your other belongings in the other bag and leave it in the car! Also, pack your vehicle carefully on a road trip. Remember to stack heavier items at the bottom and near the middle of the car, and never stack items to the ceiling. You want a clear line of vision out your back window.
Tip #4: Use defensive driving. There’s bound to be a lot of traffic on the roads on Memorial Day Weekend, so put your best defensive driving skills to use! This means leaving space in between you and other cars, avoiding all distracted driving practices, following road rules, and paying close attention to your surroundings so you can avoid an accident rather than react to one.
Use our Orlando Toyota tips to handle busy Memorial Day roads
Tip #5: Don’t rush. Like we said, you’ll probably face heavier traffic this weekend. However, don’t rush! Speeding results in accidents, so take your time and allow yourself extra time to get where you need to go so you’re not tempted to break the speed limit.
Tip #6: Clean your ride before you go. No one wants to spend hours in a dirty vehicle, and it’s going to get worse as your trip goes on. Have your ride detailed (or detail it yourself) before you head out, and keep plenty of trash bags on hand to get rid of garbage while you’re on the road.
