Spring is here! It’s a great time of year in Central Florida because the weather is mild but we’ve got plenty of sunshine going on. However, on top of more sunshine, we also see more insects, more trees blooming, more birds… and more damage to your car paint because of it. Toyota of Orlando is here to talk the top 8 ways to protect your car paint, keep your ride looking like-new, and save yourself from having to schedule a car paint job in the near future.
Maintain your car paint without spending a ton of cash
Maintaining your car paint doesn’t take a whole lot of time, effort, or money! Our Orlando Toyota body shop techs have taken the time to come up with a list of the main ways to defend your car from the elements of spring, so take a look.
Tip #1: Wash your car. It sounds simple and it is! Get rid of pollen and other dirt and debris that can damage your car paint by giving it a good wash every two weeks or so. Be sure to use the appropriate soap and remember to wash everywhere, including wheel wells and underneath your ride. Even though those places aren’t covered in paint, they still need to be cleaned to stay in top condition.
Tip #2: Wax. Apply a good coat of wax to your vehicle regularly – about two to three times a year should suffice. Our Orlando Toyota Collision Center can recommend the right one for your needs. Wax protects your car from dirt and debris, and can also stave off UV rays that fade your paint’s color.
Tip #3: Keep up your clear coat. Clear coat is essentially a layer of clear paint or film that goes over the colored paint on your vehicle and protects it from scratches, nicks, sunlight, and dirt to keep it looking good. It also lends a little extra gloss so your ride is shiny and always has that like-new look. If your clear coat is peeling or flaking, bring your ride into Toyota of Orlando to have it fixed or redone.
Tip #4: Lose the lovebugs. These pests not only are annoying and disgusting when they’re plastered on the grille of your car; they also damage your paint when you leave them on there too long. Use a dryer sheet to scrub them off as soon as you can.

Tip #5: Park in the shade. Park your ride in the shade to protect the paint from UV rays that can fade it over time. A parking garage is best, but even a carport or some well-endowed trees can lend a little extra coverage!
Tip #6: Rinse salt off after the beach. If you head to the coast – or live in a coastal area – rinse your car frequently to get the salt residue from the air off of it. Salt residue wears down your paint over time.
Tip #7: Don’t let sap sit. Sap damages your paint so if you park under trees, keep an eye out for it and use Goo Gone or another appropriate cleaner to remove it as soon as possible.
Tip #8: Bird poop. While bird poop means good luck to some people, it’s bad luck for your paint. Scrub it off quickly to keep your car paint in good shape!
