Are you hitting the highway to cheer on your home team at an away game this season? It’s pretty exciting to pack up and hit the road to celebrate kickoff in a new city, but you also need to ensure you do it safely. That’s why Toyota of Orlando is here! We have road trip safety tips for you to take a look at before you climb into the driver’s seat… so let’s get started!
Get your car ready for an away game BEFORE you leave!
Tip #1: Prep your car ahead of time. It’s never smart to hit the highway if you’re not up to date on car maintenance! You’ll want our techs to check things like tires, oil, coolant, brakes, battery, and general wear and tear. You may also want them to check your wipers and headlights! Call our Orlando Toyota service center and schedule a quick appointment before you leave… no one wants to end up broken down on the side of the road when kickoff is about to happen!
Tip #2: Pack carefully! You should always put heavy items at the bottom of your cargo area, and near the center of your car. Put lighter items on top of that, and be sure not to stack them to the ceiling – you need a clear field of vision out of the back of your car for safety reasons. Also, our Orlando Toyota dealership recommends keeping the necessities nearby – pack things like medication, phone chargers, tickets, snacks, drinks, and anything else you might need during your drive time close to you. That way you don’t have to dig around looking for it when you need it!
Tip #3: Make sure everyone is buckled up. Every single person in the car should have a seat belt on – if they don’t have one available, they need to find another ride. Also, be sure that every child has a car seat or booster seat to use and that it’s installed correctly – Toyota of Orlando has tips on that!
Road trip safety means adjusting your driving tactics!
Tip #4: Practice defensive driving. It’s easy to get wrapped up in the excitement of an away game and lose concentration on the task at hand – driving there safely. However, part of road trip safety is being prepared for anything. This means paying attention to the road and avoiding distractions, like using your cell phone, eating, and turning to talk to passengers. Keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road, and use Bluetooth wireless streaming if you need to make phone calls so you can do it hands-free.
Tip #5: NEVER drive drunk. If you’re going to indulge in some adult beverages while at the game, make sure you have arrangements to get home or back to your hotel. You can choose a designated driver beforehand or call for a cab or Uber, but NEVER get behind the wheel if you’ve been drinking!
