Have you ever been to Lake Eola? Located in the heart of downtown Orlando, this park was first established way back in 1883 by resident Jacob Summerlin (ringing any bells? Summerlin Ave?). He wanted to create a park where people could relax, get outside, and be surrounded by beauty. He donated the tract of land to be converted into a public park with one condition – it was to be maintained as a beautiful park, or else he or his heirs could reclaim it and turn it back into private property. The clause still stands today, and Lake Eola Park is still exceptionally beautiful!
City meets nature at Orlando’s Lake Eola Park!
Warm weather is finally here, so now is the perfect time to head to downtown Orlando and make the most of what Lake Eola has to offer you! There’s a ton to do around this iconic park, and Toyota of Orlando is here to give you some insider tips on what you should plan for your day out. Let’s get started!
Eat and drink: There are a ton of restaurants around Lake Eola, so you can refuel after a walk or run! Grab coffee and pastries at Panera and listen to classical music, have a drink and a burger at Relax Grill (and bring your four-legged friend!), or get fancy and treat yourself to sushi and steak at Spice Modern Steakhouse. There’s also a new kid on the block where you can sit on the patio and sip your favorite brews – World of Beers is open and ready for you if you’re in the mood to sample some new beers! Plus, you’re close to Thornton Park and downtown Orlando, so plenty of other food, drink, and dessert places are well within walking reach.
Get physical: Part of Jacob Summerlin’s plan when he donated the land for Lake Eola was to include a paved walkway that stretched all the way around. The pathway still exists! You’ll have plenty of space to walk, jog, run, or spring; the dog is also very dog-friendly, so bring your furry friend out for some exercise as well. Plus, there are stairs at various points around the park so you can do a little training on the steps! If you want to get out on the water, hit the swan boats – these paddle boats are available for rental and will definitely give you a workout.
Pack a picnic, lace up your running shoes, or try your favorite brews at Lake Eola!
Relax: Not only is there a walkway all the way around Orlando’s Lake Eola, there’s also tons of shoreline to sit on. Bring a blanket and picnic and watch the wildlife that lives there (turtles, swans, ducks, and water fowl). If you happen to visit at night, you can watch the fountain in the middle of the lake change colors. And no matter what time of day you visit, you’ll be able to take in skyline views and clear blue skies over the water!
Lake Eola is one of our new Toyota dealership’s favorite Orlando spots – why not make it one of yours too? Don’t forget, the Farmer’s Market takes place every Sunday at this beautiful park, too. Head to downtown Orlando today, and don’t forget your walking shoes!
