Here at Toyota of Orlando, we’ve seen our fair share of sports cars over the years. The hottest one on the market right now is definitely the Orlando Scion FR-S, known as the Toyota GT86 in other countries. We’ve seen plenty of others through the decades, though, and most of them have lent inspiration to this sporty Scion in one way or another! Today we’re taking a look at some of our favorite Orlando Toyota sports car options and running over their highlights. If you could bring one of them back, which would YOU choose?
If you could bring back an Orlando Toyota sports car, which would you choose?
Toyota Supra: We don’t think Orlando Toyota drivers will EVER get sick of the iconic Toyota Supra, even though it’s been officially out of production since 2002! This incredible Toyota sports car first hit the market way back in 1978 and was extremely popular right off the bat. It evolved through four generations, starting out as liftback that was heavily modeled after the popular Toyota Celica and maturing into a high-performance sports car that offered a turbocharged engine! It was quick, sporty, and in high demand… which is why we’re hoping that the Toyota/BMW collaboration coming down the road will mimic it!
Toyota 2000 GT: When you see this car, you probably automatically think of James Bond – this popular Toyota sports car did star in one of the movies, after all! We’re not surprised. The Toyota 2000 GT first came into fruition back in 1965 and was only manufactured until 1970 (which gave it a shot to star in You Only Live Twice). This iconic Toyota sports car showcased an open top design for the movie, and it also included elements like a front-engine rear-wheel drive system (much like the new Scion FR-S in Orlando!) for some serious performance. Additionally, it boasted smooth exterior lines, a five-speed manual transmission, and a sports car engine that produced 150 horsepower (which was pretty impressive back in those days)!
See where the Scion FR-S got its style!
Toyota Sports 800: Although the Toyota 2000 GT was a pretty awesome Toyota sports car, it did have a predecessor – the Toyota Sports 800! This was Toyota’s first official sports car; it was introduced in 1962. This tiny two-seater sports car offered drivers a compact body style and removable roof panels, as well as a slick and sporty design that very obviously influenced cars like the Toyota 2000 GT, Toyota Supra, and new Scion FR-S! Most of the models produced were left-hand drive; sadly, this car was never actually for sale over in the states, making it an even hotter commodity!
Which of these Orlando Toyota sports car options would YOU bring back if you could choose? While we can’t promise a reincarnation of the best-selling Toyota Supra or the dangerously sporty Toyota 2000 GT, we can get you behind the wheel of the 2015 Scion FR-S. It offers a sports car performance and appearance with an affordable price tag to put it well within your budget!
