It is COLD out there today, friends! This is probably the coldest weather we’ve seen here in our usually warm and sunny state in a while, and it’s throwing a lot of people for a loop! We decided to take advantage of the icy temps outside to debunk a couple of cold weather Toyota service myths and fill you in on the truth behind them. That way you’re prepped for whatever weather conditions you may eventually face in your vehicle!
How should you prep your car for cold weather with Orlando Toyota Service?
Myth #1: You have to let your car warm up when it’s cold. Totally not true! Our Orlando Toyota Service Center was more than pleased to be able to bust this myth, as a lot of people think it’s a cold hard fact. Truth is, you don’t have to let your vehicle idle or warm up in cold weather – it should be ready to go as soon as you touch the ignition. If your car IS having trouble getting started, you might have an issue with your carburetor or something else under the hood. Have our Toyota Service Center in Orlando take a peek for you!
Myth #2: Keep your car’s fuel tank half-full or more during cold weather. This myth actually isn’t a myth at all! It’s a true fact – getting stuck on the side of the road without gas is a hassle even when it’s warm out, so why risk it when it’s cold? Plus, if you head into an area that has snow or ice, you might face delays due to the weather. Don’t risk running out of gas! Our Toyota Service Center techs can give you more tips on how to boost fuel efficiency!
Myth #3: Your battery is more likely to die in the winter. False! Your battery is actually more likely to take a nose dive in the summer as the hot weather is harder on it than cold weather. This is because of the battery’s chemical makeup. Regardless, checking your car battery should be a part of your routine Orlando car maintenance, so don’t let it slide no matter what the temps are outside!
Do you need to schedule an Orlando oil change when the temps drop?
Myth #4: You need a different engine oil in the winter. True, but with a caveat. You probably don’t need to schedule an Orlando oil change right this second for an oil swap, as we don’t see extreme cold temperatures down here in the sunny south. However, if you live in places like Boston (sorry, Beantown!) you may want to consider swapping out your oil for one suited for cold weather. Oil gets thicker and moves slower when it’s cold outside, which can affect how it moves through your engine and subsequently, how your engine functions. Don’t risk it overheating or performing below maximum levels!
