Your teen is about to hit the road, but before they can get behind the wheel they have to accomplish one thing: passing the driving test! This test is administered to new drivers in the state of Florida to ensure they know how to safely operate a motor vehicle, and requires them to get behind the wheel and demonstrate their skill to the driving instructor. (This is in addition to the written test that teens have to take in order to get their learner’s permit, so all bases get covered!) It can be a little nerve-wracking, so our Orlando Toyota dealership is here with tips to help you prep your teen driver (or new driver of ANY age) for their driving test!
What should you do to prepare for the driving test?
The first thing to think about before taking a driving test is the condition of your Orlando Toyota! You have to provide a car for the test, and it’s required by the DMV to be in good running condition. Now is the time to clean it out and make sure it’s up to date on routine car maintenance – the last thing you need is a problem when you’re trying to show off your skills!
Preparation is everything – that’s why our Orlando Toyota dealership has come up with a list of things your teen should study and practice. Here are the things that your teen driver will be tested on when the instructor gets into the passenger’s seat:
- Conduct a turn about, or three-point turn
- Come to a complete stop at the stop sign and use your Orlando Toyota’s turn signals accordingly
- Come to a safe stop quickly while traveling at 20 mph
- Back up proficiently for at least 50 feet
- If you drive a car with a manual transmission, you’ll need to be able to shift gears smoothly
- Stay in the correct lane (the right one), as well as signal to change lanes
- Complete a turn safely, using your turn signals as required
- Park your ride in a straight parking spot (no more parallel parking, wahoo!)
Plus, first time drivers have to complete a Drugs, Alcohol, Traffic and Awareness course OR a Traffic Law Substance Abuse Education course before they can even take their driving test to ensure they know the rules of the road, especially when it comes to driving under the influence!
Practice with your teen in your Orlando Toyota!
The best way to prep your first time driver for a driving test is to practice! Take your teen out on the road (with their learner’s permit, of course) and let them practice all of their driving skills under your watchful eye. Another good way to prep and practice for this important test is to take a driver’s education course! Lots of local high schools offer them to students, and there are plenty of other organizations that can get your first time driver behind the wheel and teach them the skills they need to pass with flying colors!
