Here at Toyota of Orlando, we absolutely love spending time with our adored pets (Mr. Toyota says woof!). They make our lives so much brighter with their silliness and their unconditional love that we can’t help be a sucker for events that include our furry, four-legged friends! If you’re looking for something fun to do this weekend, make sure you check out the Baldwin Park Doggie Derby! We know we will be having a GORGEOUS weekend ahead of us, so you should try to do something outside of the house!
Why have the BP Doggie Derby?
What do you think when you hear the word “derby”? Probably the Kentucky Derby, right? Well, the Doggie Derby is basically that – except you replace pretty horses with silly pups! This year marks the 7th year in which all different pups race for a good cause. Bright Events, the non-profit that created this event, a 100% volunteer-run company that strives to help out the community. You see, Brightside Events has a program that collects food for children in need. Stock the Pantry (the name of the program) provides non-perishable food items to students in need over extended school breaks. This program was created after founders of the non-profit realized that over 100 students that attend schools in the Baldwin Park area are homeless and rely on meals provided to them by school. Money made goes directly to this program so no child goes to bed hungry.
What to expect at the Doggie Derby
Even though this event raises funds for a very important and serious cause, it’s completely silly and full of joy!
- Dogs of similar sizes will compete in a single-elimination, 25-yard sprint race. Dog owners can entice their pups with treats to make them cross the finish line first! Watching the owners entice their pups to run to the finish line is funnier than the race itself. There are champions in four different categories and each winner gets a grand prize and bragging rights until the next Doggie Derby!
- If you want your pup to be a part of the race, you are encouraged to register online before the race since the event is so popular! Show those other pups and dog owners who the real champions are!
- There will be more than 20 vendor booths that will have delicious foods and drinks for the whole family, including your furry pal!
If you want to showcase your own doggie, the event will take place at Corrine Commons in Baldwin Park on Saturday, March 8. The event will take place from 10 am to 2 pm, so make sure you bring some sunscreen to protect yourself from the sunshine! Toyota of Orlando is located at 3575 Vineland Road, which is just I-4 by the Millenia Mall. Pop on by to check out our new Toyota options so you can take your pup around town and you might just see Mr. Toyota with your own eyes!
