Orlando Toyota Service Center reveals the truth about routine auto maintenance
Additionally, the technicians at our Toyota Service Center in Orlando have helped us compile – and bust – a list of the most common auto service myths around! Whether or not you decide to come visit us for your routine maintenance and repairs, you’ll be well-prepared to handle any service situation with this handy knowledge under your belt. Let’s take a look at some of the most common service myths around…. and get to the truth behind them!
Myth#1: You should use Premium gasoline in your car.
Truth: This is a big false – you should only use Premium in your vehicle if your owner’s manual indicates that your car requires that particular type of gasoline! Our Toyota Service Center hears this myth quite a bit, and we’ve got the facts that disprove it. Most vehicles can run on 87 octane gas with no issues, and putting Premium in your tank won’t make a difference in terms of performance. Obviously consult your owner’s manual, but don’t waste big bucks on Premium gasoline if your car doesn’t need it!
Myth #2: You need to get your oil changed every 3,000 miles.
Truth: Nope! You should get oil changes as recommended by your Orlando auto service technician. Some vehicles need oil changes less frequently thanks to new technology and types of oil, so you can stretch out the miles between to around 5,000-7,000. On the other hand, if you drive quite a bit and put your car through a lot of wear and tear, you might actually need them every 3,000 miles to keep things running efficiently. Check your owner’s manual and have your oil checked when you come in to see us for routine maintenance!
How often do you need an oil change?
Myth #3: You should use synthetic motor oil over conventional motor oil.
Truth: Not necessarily! Some people prefer synthetic motor oil because it lasts longer than conventional, but you don’t HAVE to us it unless your car requires that specific type of oil. Conventional motor oil is cheaper and works just as well – it just doesn’t last as long as synthetic. The choice is yours if your car can function with either. Just make sure you never skip this auto service; it leads to big problems!
Myth #4: You need to get your air filter changed every time you get your oil changed.
Truth: Not really! If you drive a lot, chances are your air filter will get dirtier faster, and being dirty keeps it from doing its job. Intervals will vary from car to car, how much you drive, and the conditions you take on every day. Ask your technician when you need this auto service – don’t base it on what you hear!
