Fans of the 2013 Toyota Prius v in Orlando have suddenly found themselves up against a new competitor – the Ford C-Max. The Ford C-Max is a hybrid car created for the green movement that supposedly boasts 47 mpg, which is a bit higher than the Toyota Prius v’s average 42 mpg. However, Consumer Reports recently revealed that the Ford C-Max falls way, way short of the fuel mileage it claims to offer – instead of the reported 47 mpg, it actually gets closer to 37 mpg! Additionally, the Ford Fusion fell short of its promised 47 mpg, coming in at a much lower 39 mpg instead!
Ford C-max falls short on fuel efficiency while Toyota Prius v delivers as promised
Consumer Reports did thorough testing on both models. They conducted a standard series of experiments to measure the fuel efficiency on new models of both Ford cars, even having different drivers take the wheel as not all drivers maneuver the car in the same manner. When all was said and done, the Ford C-Max offered an average of 37 mpg and the Ford Fusion offered drivers closer to 39 mpg. Consumer Reports stated that this is the biggest discrepancy they’ve ever witnessed.
To offer more proof that these Ford models fall short on fuel economy, they also stated that you can visit Fuelly – it’s a website on which drivers can track their fuel efficiency, giving you real world estimates on how cars measure up. According to Fuelly, the Toyota Prius v in Orlando was right on target, delivering an average of 42 mpg as promised. However, users on the site reported the same estimates for the Ford C-Max (38.7 mpg) and Ford Fusion (39.9 mpg) that Consumer Reports delivered – both fell incredibly short of the fuel efficiency reported on their window stickers. Next time you’re shopping for a hybrid car in Orlando to increase your fuel efficiency and save money at the pump, you should consider the 2013 Toyota Prius v!
