If you’re in the market for a new Toyota in Orlando or used vehicle, you’ll want to take it on a test drive. Like most things in life you want to test it out before you make the purchase. Taking your potential next new or used car out for a spin will help you decide whether or not it is the right fit for you. Since a car isn’t like a pair of shoes that you can return within 90 days with a receipt, it’s important that you are sure the car you are about to sign for is PERFECT.
Many people want to think that they know everything about cars. They assume that in the situation they will be able to tell if something is wrong, but that isn’t always the case. We want everyone to be able to avoid the headache of purchasing a car that is not right for them! Here are some things that you will want to pay attention to while testing out your prospective vehicle.
Here Is The New Toyota or Used Car Test Drive Checklist!
BEFORE you set off on a test drive check for these things:
Comfort – Are you able to sit comfortably in the driver’s seat? Is there enough seating for what you will be using the vehicle for? Take a moment to move around the car, sit in all the seats and make sure that you and your passengers have enough room. Do you have kids? Imagine the space in the backseat with a car seat. Is there enough room for your child to stretch their legs? All things to consider!
Storage – Pop open up the trunk or hatch, and take a peek. Now, think about everything you lug around. Is there enough room for everything? Is little Billy’s baseball equipment going to fit? How about your golf clubs? If you are thinking about a new Toyota truck, make sure to look at the length of the bed! Is it long enough to hold what you need?
Engine – Once you’ve popped the trunk, walk around and pop the hood! You don’t need to be a Toyota certified technician to notice a few things. Does it look like it was well maintained, or does it look like a scene from a horror movie? Take a quick glance to see if you can easily locate things like the oil, coolant, and other fluids so you are able to check them.
Safety – Ask the salesman helping you about all the safety features. Does it have ABS? Traction Control? Child Safety Locks? Active Headrests? Airbags? Ask! Ask! Ask!
Technology – We now live in a day and age where technology is everything! Does this vehicle offer you want you need. Does it have Bluetooth, or iPod connectivity? How about a USB port? All things to look for!
Now, buckle up for seat belt because it is time for a test drive!
DURING your test drive pay attention to these things:
Response – When you hit the gas does it accelerate quickly, or feel like you’re riding a slug? How about when you hit the brakes? Does it come to a quick stop or take a little longer than you would like? Did you hear any noises when braking? When you turned the corner did the car grip the road or did you feel like you might end up in the ditch? Pay attention to these things!
Power – Don’t be nervous. You want to know what this vehicle can handle! Hit the highway and see what the puppy has to offer! Not only will the high speed let you know what you can look forward with a driving experience, but the high speeds can let you know if the vehicle needs new tires, or other things. Sometimes a vehicle does show any signs of mechanical problems until you reach highway speeds. (Make sure to obey all traffic laws while test driving. Yes, we recommend really testing out the vehicle. However, we DO NOT recommend going all “Fast and Furious” while test driving!)
Heating & Cooling – Check the A/C and heat! Those are important since we live in Florida and the summers get HOT, and our winters get cold. We not as cold as other places but we still need the heat! There is more than just that to check when it comes to heating and cooling. You also want to pay attention that the car’s engine cooling system is working. While at a standstill let the car run, keep an eye on the temperature gauge to see if it goes up. The vehicle overheating can cause your engine some series damage!
AFTER the test drive be sure to ask about these things:
Repairs – It is important you know what it will take to keep your car maintained. Luckily if you are buying a new Toyota it comes with ToyotaCare that covers you first 5 maintenances up to 2 years or 25,000 miles!
Warranties – Be sure you know exactly what warranty you have regardless of buying new or used cars. Ask about the factory warranty, and all available extended warranties.
